なぜ「ヒカリ」という名前が好きなのか？ 日本語で「ヒカリ」は光を意味し、出生時に神父様からいただいたハワイ語の名前は赤い太陽を意味します。自分の名前について考えると、自分の名前と日本との興味深いつながりを思い出さずにはいられません。私の名前は赤い太陽を意味し、日本の国旗は赤い太陽です。誰もが知っているように、日本は日の出ずる国（エ・アラ・エ、カラ・イ・カ・ハイキング）です。この言葉は生命と新たな始まりを象徴しているので、とても気に入っています。私は生まれ故郷から遠く離れていますが、名前を通してこの国と繋がりを持てることを嬉しく思っています。アロハ　プメハナ　光

Why do I like the name Hikari? Hikari in Japanese is light and my Hawaiian name given to me by a priest at births, means red sunlight. When I think of my name, I can’t help but remember this interesting connection between my name and Japan. My name means red sunlight while the Japanese flag is of a red sun. We all know, Japan is the land of the rising sun(e Ala e, Ka la I Ka hiking). I like this saying a lot because it represents life and new beginning. I’m far from my birth home but I’m happy I have a connection to this aina through my name.
